C02 + H20 – Dry Ice in Water?

For part of my final project in chemistry I need to explain what happens when you put a block of dry ice into a pool of water.

Can anyone tell me what the reaction would be, as well as the results of the reaction? I know that it would produce a fog, but like, why does it do that? And what is the chemical properties of that fog? Is it an exo or endothermic reaction? etc. lol

Dry ice “sublimates” at atmospheric pressure, which simply means it goes straight from solid to gas. Water is already in the liquid phase, and when exposed to dry ice, the water begins to freeze as dry ice is a steady -78 degrees celsius. The water freezes as it gets to the temperature of the dry ice, and the dry ice evaporates as it comes into contact with water. What you wind up getting is some bubbles of carbon dioxide, and a whole big slushy mess.
