Drinking distilled water?

We have just moved into a new house and I can smell chemicals in tap water, in fact chlorine is so strong that it tastes like drinking water in the pool. So for the rest of the day I wanted to drink distilled water, until I make it to the store to buy purified water. I looked at many articles online shows such as distilled water is unhealthy, and I was curious if it was that bad or is it just the negative produced by a long-term consumption? I intend to drink a little less than one gallons today. I do not intend, now drink distilled water, is it not a common thing. My only other option the pool water? : (
