What can I substitute for pool chemicals, chlorine, alkalinity, ph etc?
I have had my above ground 15,000 gallon pool up for 2 weeks now. I have already spent 200 bucks on chemicals. Is there anything that I can substitute these chemicals with that is cheaper. Chlorine, alkalinity, ph, flock and I know i am forgetting some stuff oh yeah algaside 60 that kills algae.
Ozone is the best choice. Ozone is a “green” alternative to Chlorine or other toxic chemicals that people ignorantly expose themselves to every day. Chlorine has been proven to cause cancer in many studies, and when it reacts with food, you get toxic byproducts that create cancer (see sources below) Ozone on the other hand can even rid your pool water of pharma drugs which are now in almost all municipal water supplies! Ozone breaks up the bonds to pharma drugs, making them harmless.
You’ll need to spend around $400 on an ozone system that can handle a 15K gallon pool. You will be able to eliminate Chlorine and only shock the water every now and then with a non-chlorine shock agent like potassium monopersulphate.
