Can Coconut Oil act as a heat protectant for hair?

You would be much better off using the Coconut oil as a conditioning treatment in advance to styling.
First, comb through your hair to remove tangles, then add coconut oil from tips to the top of your head. Then wrap your hair in a plastic bag or a shower cap, then wrap that in a towel.
Allow it to remain on either overnight or for a few hours (if you have time). The longer you leave it on, the better your hair will be. Then simply wash out with your shampoo and then follow it with a conditioner. And you’re done.
The reason for doing this is so the coconut oil has a chance to seep into the hair follicle and scalp. This will protect it from your heat styling.
