House sitting and squatter rignts?
This is in Texas. A friend of mine was transferred overseas for a year. He asked if I would be interested in house sitting. He would cover the mortgage, lawn, and pool maintenance costs. I would cover utilities, internet, and basicially keep the house in good condition. It’s about 3700 sq. ft.
Now his wife is asking me to pay rent. If I refuse to go along, can they kick me out? There is no signed contract. If they can kick me out, how long would I have, legally, to relocate?
Reenzz might be right. But, by the book you have 3 days to move out before they start legally evicting you. It takes a couple of weeks and will be recorded on your credit report for 10 years, with the landlord having the right to renew it every 10 years for your lifetime.
