Chemicals for an Easy-Set pool?

I was given an Intex Easy-Set pool that is about a 15 foot diameter pool. It came with a pump and ladder and some old chlorine tablets. The owner said we needed to buy some type of chemicals and tester for the water, but all the answers I have been given are very confusing. Can someone please tell me how to set the water so it is safe. We are filling the pool now and my boyfriend needs to know what to buy now. He went to Wal-mart in search of some type of chemical pool kit and tester strips… we are hoping to be swimming by tommorrow. Any suggestions?

To sanitize the water, you can use the chlorine tablets left and put them into a chemical floater (since Intex pools do not have a skimmer), which will constantly provide a chlorine reading.

Also pick up some testing strips to test chlorine, pH, and alkalinity levels. Chances are your alkalinity and pH levels will be low (rain and other elements lower pH level). To raise these, pick up a total alkalinity increaser and a pH increaser. Be sure to adjust your total alkalinity first, then adjust your pH.

Every few days, be sure to test for chlorine. If the reading is low, add more tablets to the floater. The chlorine level is the most important aspect of water chemistry.

I hope this helps. If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact me at the information below.
