Swimming Pool Maintenance Inground

Converting an inground Swimming Pool for some other purpose.?

What is the easiest & cheapest way to convert or get rid of, an inground swimming pool as we don’t want it. Possibly a water storage tank, a garden or BBQ area. What would you recommend? The size of the pool is about 8,100 x 6,300 and it is in working condition. The warmer weather in Canberra has a very short swimming duration and the maintenance in both time and money is not worth it for us.

Converting? I had some customers come up with some pretty far out uses for their ingrounds when they no longer wanted them as a pool. One turned their in ground concrete, in door pool, into a home theatre, just like a regular cinema. Front row seats were in the deep end and the seating went up towards the shallow end, the screen being the deep end wall. Another simply built a wooden decking over the pool for an outdoor entertaining area and gym, with drainage under it so’s that if he changed his mind, he could convert back to a pool again.
Removing. This can get expensive. A lot will have to do with your local municipal by laws. Many municipalities require ALL portions of a pool to be removed (even underground plumbing and electrical). Some are fine with you just filling the whole thing in as is and turning it back into a lawn or garden. You’ll have to check with your building department if you want to stay on the legal side of the law.
