Should I stick to using pool chemicals? Or get a Saltwater/Chlorine Generator?
It’s that time again where i’m about to put up the pool (15′ x 48″ Metal frame Round pool) and last couple of seasons…
our pool would turn green and chemicals would work, but when we get in, it turns cloudy, and turns back to green…. and ALSO, the pool would sometimes turn brown, chemicals would work, but we couldn’t swim for a week..we poured down acid one time, and it worked but turned back to brown AGAIN (and plus the design from the vinyl came off)
i was reseaching those new Chlorine Generators, the reviews would basically say it WORKED or it SUCKED…i’m thinking about getting it, but i want to know, is it worth that much $$? or should i stick to chemicals in my pool..and where would i purchase the salt anyway? (i’m in Minnesota)
BTW, our pool is only up from June-September
Oh you can buy pool salt any time – try pool supply shops. The problem with green (algae) is that killing it makes it brown (dead algae). You are not getting enough filtration or you need a cleaning once you kill the algae. With a proper shock and cleaning, you should not have algae once you set your chemicals for the year. I am not a big fan of chemicals in pools but I am not a pro either – I would suggest you have several pool maintenance companies come in and talk to you about what they would do – make sure you have at least one conventional quote and one chlorine generator quote and see what they promise, when they say they will do it and how much that costs – it will at least give you an idea of what should be done under each scenario – you may not want to take the time to do all the required stuff with either scenario but they are held to some honesty since they know you are going to be price conscious or you would not make them price it – let them know they are pricing it against you doing it yourself or pricing against other companies – see what they suggest and this will indicate the minimum you need to do to do this yourself.
